Hey Dr. Glass here from Advanced Chiropractic in Lancaster Pennsylvania and welcome to our new Pain Relief Minute. In the last couple of weeks we’ve been going through a number of different things you can do – simple tips for pain relief. We’ve talked about icing, talked about some simple stretches for the lower back, stretching your hamstrings out, looking at posture bringing your shoulders back, looking at your neck, talked a little bit about using Biofreeze that type of thing. There’s another really simple thing that anyone can do at home using just a towel like a beach towel, shower towel that type of thing. What you want to do is you want to take a towel and kind of fold it up like you’d be folding up a sleeping bag. So you fold in half and then roll it up into like a cylinder so you have something that looks like this and then take rubber bands around both ends and you have yourself a really simple towel roll they can be used for a number of different things – the main thing – using it to support the curves that are in the spine.
In the spine, we have a curve in the neck and then we have a curve in the lower back and many times because of posture and positions that we’re in that curve is straightened out so supporting that curve can be really helpful for pain relief. So with your towel roll what you want to do is just lay back on it at home like on the bed or on a carpeted surface put that under your neck just relax back in that position for a few minutes – slip it into your lower back supporting that lower back curve a couple minutes every day work your way up if it’s uncomfortable but get into a habit of doing this try this for a week or so and see how you feel after that. I think you’ll find that there’s more flexibility in your neck more flexible and your lower back and you may have less pain too. Hope that helps – if you have any other questions feel free to reach out to me give me a call and I hope everyone has a great day
