Shruti: If you love watching Glamrs videos and would like to be notified everytime we drop a new one please hit that Bell icon below! Jenifer: After pregnancy I have Melasma, What can i do for that? Dr. Bindu: Okay, yes, so this is Melasma, it occurs on the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin, and this is also known as the ‘mask of pregnancy’ Jenifer: So, Dr. does it happen only after pregnancy or can it happen to anyone? Dr. Bindu: It can happen to anyone because there are multiple causes, one as I said is pregnancy, if you are on hormone tablets, women who are on birth control, that is equivalent to pregnancy, so if you are on birth control pills and it’s also not unknown in men. Men don’t get pregnant obviously, but it’s not unknown in men, it could be because of a liver problem, so I don’t want to say anything – why does it occur, it could be because of many reasons, but I’d like to just say, sometimes nowadays we use a lot of products which have fragrance, lemon and very flowery fragrances can also contribute to this pigmentation, so it’s not that no should use it, but some people who are prone to this may get the melasma because of the fragrance that is the lemon or the flowery fragrances together with sunlight.
So they can get this too. You have to use a sunscreen in the beginning and at the same time you have to use creams which contain 2 to 4% hydroquinone or you have to use creams which contain Kojic acid, vitamin c and for melasma sunscreen is a must. You must use a sunscreen because otherwise whatever treatments you’re doing, it will go right back if you go out in the sun because the sun is aggravating it and nowadays they are saying studies have shown that even the pollution is also contributing to that melasma, not causing it, but aggravating it. So you have to use a sunscreen and wash your face regularly and of course these creams which i mentioned you can use it at night, and of course you may need treatments in the clinic and we have very safe treatments like chemical peels and lasers which also help. Jenifer: Thank you so much, have a great day, until next time, stay tuned and stay glamrs.
