An Alief Independent School District employee will face a vehicular assault charge after the employee drove into a Hastings High School student Wednesday, sending him to the hospital in critical condition, according to district officials.

After dismissal, the student had been crossing High Star Drive near the west Houston school at 2:40 p.m. when the employee struck him, officials said.

He is currently being treated at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital.

“We ask for your thoughts and prayers for the student’s recovery,” the district said in a statement.
