Comcast and Xfinity customers on the Westside won’t have to cross the Rio Grande for in-person retail service.
The Philadelphia-headquartered telecommunications giant announced the opening of its second Albuquerque retail store Monday, which is its first on the Westside at the Cottonwood Shopping Center at 10131 Coors Blvd. NW. Xfinity will operate out of a 2,400-square-foot space at Suite C5 next to H&R Block. Comcast also has an Xfinity retail front at 4800 Cutler NE.
Customers can upgrade or swap equipment, receive product education and pay their bill at either of the two locations.
“A Westside retail location is something our customers have asked for, and it’s a critical part of creating a convenient and local customer experience in Albuquerque,” said Kyle Biederwolf, manager of external affairs for Comcast, in a statement to Business First. “The Cottonwood West shopping center was particularly appealing to our team because it’s in the heart of Albuquerque’s Westside in proximity to a variety of other retailers. We want to locate our stores in locations that make it easy for consumers to access them.”
Opening a new retail location is in line with Comcast’s multi-year strategy to transform its customers’ experience. Comcast also aims to service customers faster with shorter appointment windows, enhancing digital self-service and support and opening more retail locations like the new store at Cottonwood.
The store currently staffs between six and eight employees, which is the the maximum number of employees it can support while adhering to the Covid-19 safe practices for retailers, Biederwolf said. The store will look to add more employees as the pandemic subsides.
The store has implemented Covid-19 policies like requiring customers and employees to wear face coverings, limiting customers in the store to allow for social distancing and plexiglass between interaction areas. The store will also be cleaned twice a day, according to a news release.
“We’re proud to bring this new retail setting and enhanced level of service to customers on the Westside of Albuquerque,” said Chris Dunkeson, area vice president for Comcast. “This latest Xfinity store opening is another milestone in our larger campaign to offer a simpler and more convenient retail experience.”
Comcast generated more than $100 billion in revenue in 2019 and employed about 190,000 workers as of June 2020, according to The Business Journals research.
