One Direction brought fans to tears when they announced their split back in 2016. Although the band’s relatively short career garnered a huge amount of fans and renown, their end did spark a number of even more interesting ventures, including solo acts from the likes of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik.
Over the past few years Styles has managed to craft his own legacy with two chart-busting albums.
While his first self-titled album did extremely well, his second – Fine Line – hit huge heights in the charts.
Although it included a number of bangers, it also had some more tender, honest moments from Styles included in it.
One of these more tender songs is Falling, a piano-led song which sees the star detailing some self-indulgent self-loathing.

Speaking to Zane Lowe with Apple Music about this song, Styles explained how he wrote and performed it.
Fans will of course be shocked to learn that Styles actually wrote this about himself, and detailed it was actually all about how he was feeling during the recording process of Fine Line.
Speaking to Lowe, Styles explained: “I think it was, for me, what I hadn’t really experienced before during the making of this record.
“The times when felt good and I felt happy were the happiest I ever felt in my life.

“And the times when I felt sad were the lowest I’ve ever felt in my life.”
Smiling he continued to divulge his deepest feelings.
“And I think [‘Falling’] was kind of that feeling of when you can feel yourself falling back into one of those moments.”
Discussing the lyrics more in depth with Lowe, Styles said: “The chorus says: ‘What am I now? Am I someone I don’t want around?’

“… I guess it was a big moment where I was kinda asking myself: Who am I? What am I doing? Kind of, you know?”
It is painfully obvious that Styles included a lot of his own emotions into Fine Line as an entire album.
During the interview he also gave details on the voice message he placed on the final portion of the song Cherry.
Styles explained: “That was my ex-girlfriend.”
On putting the clip in the song, he said: “I don’t know, I think it got added later on.
“And it felt so part of the song, it felt like it needed it.”
Smiling, he went on to speak about their relationship now, saying: “We’re friends and stuff.
“So I asked her if it was okay and she was okay with it.”
