Riverside County reports 738 new coronavirus cases

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Riverside County grew by 738 as nine more people died of COVID-19 in the Monday, Sept. 21, update from public health officials.

The rise in cases represents a 1.3% increase from Friday, Sept. 18. The county does not update coronavirus statistics on weekends.

Here are the latest numbers, according to county and state public health officials.

Riverside County

Confirmed cases: 57,419, up from 56,681 Friday

Deaths: 1,162, up from 1,153 Friday

Hospitalizations: 131 confirmed patients Sunday, down from 138 Saturday; 55 suspected patients Sunday, up from 54 Saturday

Intensive-care unit: 47 confirmed patients Sunday, same as Saturday; 6 suspected patients Sunday, down from 7 Saturday

Tests conducted: 613,711, up from 600,554 Friday

Recoveries (estimated): 52,469, up from 51,988 Friday

Reopening plan tier: Purple (widespread risk level). Many non-essential indoor business operations are closed.

    • New cases per day per 100,000 residents: 5.8, as of Tuesday, Sept. 15
    • Case rate adjusted for testing volume: 6.7, as of Tuesday
    • Test positivity rate: 6.4%, as of Tuesday
    • What’s next: Riverside County is meeting both criteria to move to a less-restrictive tier (adjusted case rate of 7.0 or less , positivity rate of 8% or less). If it meets both for a second consecutive week, it will advance. The state updates the numbers on Tuesdays.
