THANE: A 17-year-old girl was found dead at the Retibunder creek in Thane on Wednesday.
Police suspect that she might have died by suicide after a tiff with her sister over a trivial issue.
The police said that the girl has been identified as Saima Salmani, a resident of Mumbra.
The police said that on Wednesday, the regional disaster management cell of Thane Municipal Corporation was alerted about a body of a girl floating in the creek. Subsequently, the body was fished out and later identified.
ACP Venkat Andhale said, “It is most likely that the girl might have jumped in the creek. Her parents told us that she was watching something on the mobile phone while her sister took it as she was going to the market and the duo had a big quarrel over this trivial issue. When her sister came back, she searched for the victim but could not find her. ”
The police suspect that in a fit of rage, she might have flung herself in the creek, which resulted in her death. A case of accidental death has been registered and further investigation is underway.
Her body has been sent to Kalwa hospital for postmortem.
