When is Genshin Impact coming to Nintendo Switch? – App Trigger

Genshin Impact was announced as ‘coming soon’ to Nintendo Switch back in January. So when can we expect its release?

MiHoYo’s free-to-play fantasy action RPG Genshin Impact launched back in September for PlayStation 4, PC and mobile, taking the gaming community by storm. But if you remember, back in January of this year, miHoYo announced that the game would also be coming to Nintendo Switch.

Fast forward and now that the game has seen its release on its initial platforms, we can start asking about when it will be coming to the Switch. Unfortunately, there’s no solid release date as of right now.

In a wide-ranging interview with RPG Site, Sam Lai, head of communications at MiHoYo, was asked about the Switch release around the game’s launch in September. Here’s what he said:

“The Switch version of Genshin Impact is currently under development. More information regarding Switch beta testing and launch dates will be announced at a later time.”

Not exactly the most specific answer, so all we can do is speculate. Given that Genshin Impact is a live service game, MiHoYo is likely focused on adding new content and events, which means the Switch version is likely not a priority. Although, you imagine they’d want to get the game out on the Switch as soon as possible to capitalize on the popularity.

Not to mention, with Genshin Impact‘s gameplay already tuned for mobile, it feels like a perfect fit for the Switch’s on-the-go capabilities. The Switch seems like a prime console for it.

If I had to guess, I would imagine beta testing beginning in early 2021, with a release in mid to alte 2021. When it does arrive, don’t count on it having cross-save functionality. While mobile and PC boast cross-progression, the PlayStation 4 version is its own separate account. Of course, that may have more to do with Sony’s gated walls than the game itself.

Either way, hopefully, we get an update on the progress of the Nintendo Switch version of Genshin Impact later this year.
