Walking Meditation or Contemplative walking what it means and what are the benifits?
Is there a method, or a way, something that you can give to me in order for me to change my mind in such a way to think much more positive In this video what I’m going to invite you to do is Contemplative Walking. And in contemplative walking, you’re going to be walking slowly. Slow to medium paced. There is no power walking in this, there is no jogging and no running. Something that we’re going to be aware of is our breath. The in breath and the out breath. And now it is not a focus. We’re not focused on our breath. We’re just observing our breath. And we’re going to be scanning our environment for something that is beautiful, for something that is wonderful, for something that is awe-inspiring.
Purposefully looking for something that is of this beautiful, gorgeous nature. And you can just notice it, appreciate it and you’re going to be focusing on that. So that you can start pinpointing them much more readily and train your RAS, your reticular activation system within your brain, to start noticing these much more often throughout your day, even when you’re not doing this practice.
However, if you are having monkey mind as you’re going out and trying this practice, something that you may want to add in addition is to have a sacred word, or sacred phrase, or sound that you’re going to be using to centre yourself. What I love about this practice is that it trains my mind so even when I’m not doing this practice, I start to notice beauty here, the beauty there, wonder! And I’m just like wow! This is Amazing! At the same time, when I’m feeling that I’m not in that space, in that state, I can choose as I’m choosing in this practice, to calm my emotions and to consciously focus on things that are beautiful, wonderful and gorgeous.
And by doing that, now I feel like I have much more control when I’m in an environment that I may not want to be in. So that’s the psychological benefit and emotional benefit right there. Spiritually as well, I start to notice that I’m much more connected to the stream, to this tree, to this flower, whatever I’m engaging with and I’m looking at while I’m doing this contemplative walking and scanning around. Do it three or four times every single week and see and notice how these changes occur within your mind, taking you away from the negativity, taking you away from the cynicism, and adding a different viewpoint into your life.
