Health Minister Greg Hunt has hailed the national vaccine program for “accelerating exactly as intended” as the national total of vaccines hit 670,000.
Mr Hunt said the vaccination program is going ahead in the “manner that was intended, at the time it was intended” due to a surge in domestic supply of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
He praised the “very clear development” in the vaccine rollout as the CSL domestic manufacturing of the AstraZeneca vaccine delivering “strong, stable supplies”.
Australia recorded a “record day” for vaccinations in the past 24 hours with 74,826 doses administered in the 24 hours to midnight last night, taking the national total above 650,000.
The health minister also provided an update on the vaccine rollout in aged care, which has seen 848 facilities receiving their first dose of vaccinations and 279 already administering second doses.
The total amount of aged care residents as surpassed 99,000, which the minster praised as a “very significant amount of progress”.
