The Hong Kong Jockey Club purchased four eye-catching colts at the recent Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale for a total outlay of AU$1.37 million (approx. HK$8.305 million).

The Club’s highest-priced purchase was Lot 525 for AU$550,000, a good-looking son of Deep Field who has been making waves in Hong Kong as the sire of 14 winners this season, including speedsters Winning Dreamer, Sky Field and Winner Method.

Recently, Deep Field notched his first G1 as a sire with Portland Sky who scored a dead-heat victory in the G1 Oakleigh Plate and before this he broke the record of individual winners for a second-season sire in Australia, a record previously held by his own sire Northern Meteor.

The Club opened its buying with Lot 41 for AU$200,000, a son of Magnus, sire of G1 winners Malaguerra and Streets of Avalon, as well as nine winners through the current Hong Kong racing season, including Sight Success, All For St Paul’s and Harmony N Blessed.

Tavistock has gained prominence in Hong Kong thanks to the exploits of his brilliant son Werther, 2015/16 Hong Kong Horse of the Year recipient who won the Hong Kong Derby, Hong Kong Gold Cup, Champions & Chater Cup and QEII Cup.

The Club secured two of his attractive sons, firstly Lot 369 for AU$400,000, a bay colt who is a half-brother to Listed winner Never Back Down, who safely held subsequent G1 Commonwealth Cup winner Eqtidaar at Newbury. The second of the pair to fall the Club’s way was Lot 409, bought for AU$220,000.
