NEW DELHI: Kia Motors India on Friday unveiled the all-new compact SUV, Sonet. With the Kia Sonet, the Korean carmaker is foraying into the B-segment, which is highly competitive in India.
The India-exclusive compact SUV, which was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, is expected to be a game changer in the B-segment market where it will go head on with the likes of Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the upcoming Nissan Magnite.

The Kia Sonet will be offered with 3 engine options. The 2 petrol engines offered are the Smartstream 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine and the powerful 1.0-litre T-GDi turbocharged engine. The only diesel offering is the 1.5-litre CRDi engine. The engines are offered with a choice of five transmissions- 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 7-speed DCT, 6-speed AMT and the new Smartstream 6-speed iMT.
The Kia Sonet with its stylish and bold looks, is aimed to offer a solid on-road presence and a premium youthful appeal. The Kia Sonet has a very powerful appearance with ‘heartbeat’ LED DRLs with integrated indicators and the ‘heartbeat’ LED taillamps make sure that the car doesn’t go unnoticed. The Sonet has a very aggressive look because of the signature tiger-nose grille with a distinctive grille mesh and the ‘turbo’ shaped front skid plates.

On the inside, the Kia Sonet offers quite luxurious interiors and best-in-class features that are aimed at giving a good in-cabin experience. The SUV is loaded with Kia’s UVO technology with 57 features including the voice assist. The Kia Sonet offers a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system which is paired with Bose 7-speaker system with sub-woofer. Kia is also introducing the all-new LED sound mood lamps which is exclusive to the Sonet.
To offer an exceptional driving experience, the Kia Sonet will be offered with the new iMT technology. The 6-speed iMT gearbox will enable a clutch-less shifting with the control of a manual shift level offer the best of both transmissions. The Kia Sonet will become the second car in the Indian market to offer this feature, after the Hyundai Venue. The multi-drive modes and the grip control features that are exclusive to automatic trims, will further enhance the driving experience.
The most unique offering in the Kia Sonet line-up will be sporty GT Line trim. The GT-Line trim will give an edge to the compact SUV and highlight its dynamic presence on the road. The GT Line trim comes with exclusive interiors with dominant red accents. The sporty trim will feature a high glossy-black grille with the GT Line logo with a red accent.
To offer uncompromised safety and convenience, the Kia Sonet comes with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, brake assist, front and rear parking sensors, highline tyre pressure monitor, auto headlamps and ISOFIX child seat anchor.
