Maurizio Sarri: Juventus Manager Believes Napoli Have Plenty Of Quality

Juventus v Parma Calcio - Serie A

Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri has hailed the quality of Genarro Gatusso’s Napoli, as his side take on the Gli Azzurri at the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday.

The Naples-born coach will return to his home city where he spent three season’s with Napoli and is relishing the opportunity of going head-to-head with his former employers. Sarri claims the three points at stake is all that matters, however.

“It’s going to be a special match for me, but what matters most is the collective goal: To bring home the three points in a difficult match,” Sarri told Juventus’ official website.

The Juve boss believes Napoli are a very strong team and has highlighted the importance of their signing Diego Demme, who was brought in from RB Leipzig earlier in the January transfer window.

“Napoli with the addition of Demme [Diego Demme] now returns to having a point of reference in midfield through the middle. I expect a difficult game, they are a strong team that even if they’re going through a difficult moment, remain very dangerous in a one-off match.

“Their position in the table is strange because if you then look at the statistics tables in Serie A, you’ll notice that they are in first for ball possession, average time of keeping the ball in midfield, successful long-balls and attempted shots. Their ranking doesn’t match the quality that they are expressing. They are a side that are destined to recover.

Sarri also stated his former side are looking to play in a different way to how Carlo Ancelotti had Napoli set-up and believes Gattuso is the right man to stamp his style on the team.

“The technical qualities of their players are very high, and they’ll be coming into the game from an important victory that can revive them, they will be very motivated. Napoli from Ancelotti to Gattuso is changing: The arrivals of the central midfielders say that they want to play differently, from their current formation and their positioning. Gattuso is a coach who manages to give great solidarity to his teams.”

The Juve boss finally touched on the importance of midfielder Rodrigo Bentacur and believes the fact he is still young means he can continue to improve.

“Rodrigo has ample room for improvement in the build-up phase, but he gives us balance with his extraordinary dynamism and is present in the two phases of the game. He is a young man who is improving dramatically and for us, he’s extremely important.”

The game kicks-off at 14:45 (EST) at the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday, with Juventus looking to extend their lead at the top of the Serie A table to 54 points.
