The Best Inclusive Movies Streaming Right Now

In the age of quarantine, I’ve been turning to movies every night to get my mind off of what’s happening in the real world.

NBC / Via

While I’ve gone through a lot of movies over the months — some good, some great, some terrible — I’ve decided to highlight the best films I saw that include a diverse cast because as is, there’s not enough out there to begin with.

Here’s some titles available on Amazon Prime:

The Sound of Metal

Amazon / Courtesy Everett Collection

When a heavy metal drummer’s life is turned upside down, he must reckon with his changing circumstances and start anew.

One Night in Miami

Amazon / Courtesy Everett Collection

The all-star cast plays five hugely significant characters: Malcolm X, Cassius Clay, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown. It’s a slice of history.

The Big Sick

Lionsgate /Courtesy Everett Collection

Based on Kumail Nanjiani’s life, The Big Sick is genuine and profound and funny, too.

Sylvie’s Love

Amazon / Courtesy Everett Collection

Set in the 1950s, this love story will have your heart soaring.

Late Night

Amazon / courtesy Everett Collection

This Mindy Kaling helmed movie has it all: heart and humor.

Seven Pounds

Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection

Oh man, Will Smith just destroys your soul here.

Coming to America

Paramount Pictures / Via

Coming to America is a classic from 1988 starring Eddie Murphy that will have you laughing.

Here’s some titles available on Netflix:

Malcolm & Marie

Netflix / Via

Zendaya and John David Washington. Need I say more?

The Half of It

KC Bailey / Netflix

Original and so heartfelt, the feels are intense with this one. You gotta watch this for the character of Ellie Chu alone.

The Incredible Jessica James

James C. Strouse / Via

I mean, the name says it all. INCREDIBLE. You need to see this.

Someone Great

Sarah Shatz / Netflix

This one’s got it all: friendship, love lost, great visuals. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll want to listen to “Death By A Thousand Cuts” after (IYKYK).

The To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before Trilogy

Netflix / Via

Sweetness overload. Based on the books by Jenny Hann, these films are overly adorable. Laura Jean forever.

The Old Guard

Netflix / Via

It’s got action, it’s got heart, it’s got a storyline that gets you from the opening scene. Honestly, we need a sequel.

The Love Birds

Paramount Pictures

This movie is so good. The plot is original and hysterical. Issa Rae is IT.

The Last Black Man in San Francisco

A24 / Via

Gloriously done and sincerely beautiful, this film is beyond words.

Here’s some titles available on HBO Max:

Judas and the Black Messiah

Warner Bros. /Courtesy Everett Collection

A story you absolutely must know (if you didn’t before).

Malcolm X

Warner Bros. / Via

Clocking in at 3 hours and 22 minutes, this movie is a commitment but if you’re up for it, you won’t regret it.

Fahrenheit 451

If you’ve read the book, you know what you’re in for, and yet, not at all because this movie takes it to the next level!

A Wrinkle in Time

Walt Disney Pictures / Via

Oprah. Need I say more? Okay, I will: this movie has an amazing cast but also just hits all the feels.

The Little Things

Warner Bros. / Courtesy Everett Collection

Denzel Washington is, as always, a revelation.

Here’s some titles available on Hulu:

Night School

Universal Pictures / Via

Funny and delightfully silly, Night School will have you cracking up, guaranteed.

The Hate U Give

Erika Doss / 20th Century Fox Licensing/Merchandising / Everett Collection

You’ll cry and rage and want to reach for the book this movie’s based off of ASAP.

Sorry to Bother You

Annapurna Pictures / Everett Collection / Everett Collection

This one’s a trip. Exciting and kinda crazy, anyone who’s seen this movie raves about how they can’t turn away.

I know these aren’t all of the inclusive movies available, but they’re the ones I’ve watched and can reccomend so far. What about you?
